ARTISAN
—Behind the Strip
Review by Laura Michaels
NEW YEAR’S CELEBRATIONS COME IN MANY STYLES OF COMFORT, ELEGANCE, AND SOMETIMES LASCIVIOUS BEHAVIORS—AND AT STRIPLV, WE CAN THINK OF NO BETTER PLACE TO EXPLICITLY DINE, OTHER THAN THE ARTISAN.
Just behind the Strip, nestled in a tropical haven of lush plants, is one of the most unique hotels to experience, the Artisan. Step inside slowly, because upon first entering you may lose your footing, as the entire hotel feels as dimly lit as a vampire’s cave. Get ready—because as soon as your vision gets accustomed to the muted lighting, you will have a feast for your eyes—an art-lover’s dream. Every nook, every corner, even the ceiling, is covered with ornately framed replica paintings of the masters. From room to room, hallway to hallway, this unique style of décor is carried throughout the restaurant. It’s no wonder that we here at STRIPLV find their lounge to be a sexy spot to enjoy an aperitif and a lovely “nude” oil painting replica, before settling in for dinner. Overall, the ambience is that of a historical time from the past, much like from a movie—dark, romantic, and full of luscious-looking “nudes”, lavish chandeliers, candelabras, red velvet chairs, and enormous taffy-cream leather masters chairs fit for a king.
The European flavor seamlessly flows to their dining area, with comfortable, large, black leather booths and white linen-covered tables.
Wines by the bottle are reasonably priced—so order up a bottle—or two. You will not be hurried through your meal. The staff is very accommodating, keeping to a subtle, quiet style of serving, which offers much privacy.
Start with the Antipasto, Italian Meats and Cheeses with Marinated Artichoke Hearts, Mushrooms and Peppers all on top of a bed of Spring Greens.
The Calamari was a little tough, so I would not recommend this appetizer, but their Bruschetta hit the spot: Italian Bread Lightly Toasted and topped with all Fresh ingredients, Tomatoes, Garlic, Parsley, Basil and Olive Oil.
My lover ordered the Shrimp Scampi, White Wine Poached Shrimp in Lemon, Butter and Garlic and tossed with Fettuccini. Though this was a manly-size helping of pasta and with plenty of Shrimp, my lover found it a little bland.
On the other hand, I found that I had ordered the perfectly sexy entrée: Fettuccini Alfredo, Fettuccini Pasta tossed in a Creamy Alfredo sauce of Butter, Cheese and Heavy Cream. This was one of the best Alfredo’s that I’ve had—outside of my own kitchen! It was rich and creamy—not the thin and drippy light cream sauces that many establishments serve—and loaded with grated cheese that makes for an excellent Alfredo.
Seductive and inviting, the Artisan calls to you—to escape from reality and enter into a torrid affair with your lover. Next time I’ll reserve a room for after-dinner drinks in bed…
