THE ARROYO GOLF CLUB AT RED ROCK

The Arroyo, an Arnold Palmer signature course, is a must-play for golfers who are in town for our famous Vegas 3 G’s—Gambling, Girls and Golf.  You may get lambasted at the casino tables, or disappointed with your experience at the hands of a beautiful Vegas girl, but the Arroyo won’t let you down.  It’ll lift up your spirits by giving you a really fair chance to score one of your better rounds of the year.  It’s a player-friendly course of moderate length  (6883 Gold—6433 Black—5904 Blue)  that has no water holes, no dog-legs and not much impenetrable rough.  But don’t get the idea I’m saying it’s easy.  It just seems easy.  The course is hardened up by Arnold’s penchant for sand traps;  in and along the fairways and surrounding almost every green.  The greens themselves are huge, which can cause some really long putts and therefore lead to several three-putts if your approach shot strays too far from the pin.  But The Arroyo is a comfortable course to play.  There’s enough room off the tees to allow for non-perfect drives and it’s definitely not a  “trick”  course.  What you see is what you get;  straight-ahead holes with lush fairways and greens you can approach from almost any angle.  If you’re striking the ball well, you’ll score well.  Meandering through an exclusive subdivision, the club is landscaped perfectly with thousands of beautiful purple flowering bushes that give it a park-like appearance.  It’s a great course, where you won’t lose your balls,  (golf or otherwise),  and where you won’t feel beat-up at the end of your round.

About twenty minutes from the Strip, The Arroyo is tucked near the base of Red Rock Canyon and the mountain views from many of the holes make the short trip worthwhile.  The professional staff is top-notch, and there is an elite country club feel to the way you’re treated from trunk to golf cart and back.

From its gold and black tees, three out of the four par threes are long, tough holes—two of them being well over two hundred yards.  As I mentioned earlier, though there’s no water to contend with, the sand traps surrounding these par threes can easily grab your ball and make the holes difficult very quickly.  The par fives are all straight and not particularly long, so look to birdie at least the shortest one,  (just 497 from the Gold Tees),  and you should reach the other three in regulation also.  Moderately long, the par fours round out and toughen the course a bit, but they’re straight, fair, and fun to play.
